Computer vision syndrome (CVS) is a temporary condition resulting from focusing the eyes on a computer display for protracted, uninterrupted periods of time.
SYMPTOMS
- Dry eyes
- Blurred vision
- Double Vision
- Light Sensitivity
- Neck and Shoulder Pain
- Headache
Ways to reduce Computer Vision Syndrome
1. Blink more often
when working on the computer, people blink less frequently. Blinking is very important when working on a computer; it rewets your eyes to avoid dryness and irritation
2. Use proper lighting
Eliminate exterior light by closing drapes, Shades or blinds. Reduce interior lighting by using fewer light bulbs and tubes. If possible, position your monitor so that windows are to the side of it, instead of being in front and back.
3. 20-20-20 Rule
Look away from your computer every 20 minutes for 20 seconds then look at objects that are atleast 20 feet away. This relaxes the focusing muscles inside the eye to reduce fatigue
4. Monitor to eye - the ideal distance Your PC monitor should be straight in front of you, ideally at a distance of more than 25 inches from your eyes.
5. Monitor Location- The ideal viewing area of the monitor is 6 inches, below the horizontal eye level
6. Font colour selection
Preferably work with fonts of darker shades on light background & vice versa.
7. Sitting posture
Use chair with arm rest which are able to provide, support while typing, position of head slightly titled downwards & height of the chair adjusted appropriately so that the feet rest flat on floor.
8. Eye exercise
Close your eyes & slowly. roll your eyeballs. Clockwise & anticlockwise. Repeat it three times.
